Ramblings On…Episode 7×08: Season Seven, Time For A Wedding (Spoilers)

2011 | 2011, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Ramblings On, Season 7, Spoilers, Supernatural

So how many of us guessed correctly about who was going to be Sammy’s bride in this episode? And how many of us guessed correctly how she did it? Setting aside that most of us who have a slightly obsessive love for the show would have figured out both of these things sans the aid of any spoiler content from people who were “in the know” early, I found this episode highly enjoyable. “Season Seven, Time For a Wedding” was written by Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loftlin who have written some really amazing episodes! Most recently, they wrote “The Girl Next Door” and “Frontierland”. The episode was directed by Tim Andrew. This was his first Supernatural episode, but he has directed a few episodes of Teen Wolf and Son of the Beach. Neither show have I watched, but I did enjoy his attention to facial expressions in this episode. I would also like to know who was responsible for all the sweater usage! I have never seen so many sweaters used in a Supernatural episode. My fa More After The Cut...

Ramblings On…Episode 7×07: The Mentalists (Spoilers)

2011 | 2011, Ramblings On, Season 7, Spoilers, Supernatural

After taking part in a paranormal investigation last night, and then dealing with horrible music at Barnes and Noble today, I am finally buckling down to write this review! Friday nights episode had me at the gory death by planchette opening teaser. That scene really set the stage for the whole episode. Right at the very beginning we got nasty blood spatter after the classic “seeing breath” phenomena. Right away we knew we were in for a good old fashioned Supernatural episode. Written by those two twitter teasers Ben Acker and Ben Blacker, “The Mentalists” definitely delivered. We had our boys back! This is the first Supernatural eppie they have scripted, but it is very clear that they know and understand our boys. There were the cute little comments and crazy moments to remind us about what has been going on. For example, last episode there was a manhunt for Sam and Dean Winchester. They were on the Most Wanted list. They had “died” with the help of the Sheriff More After The Cut...

Ramblings On…Episode 7×06: Slash Fiction (Spoilers)

2011 | 2011, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Ramblings On, Season 7, Spoilers, Supernatural

I’m sorry I’m getting this review out so late! Unfortunately we were without power from Saturday through Wednesday…which made writing very difficult, unless I wanted to battle for a plug at Barnes and Noble or somewhere else. Sadly, my laptop is “old” now, so the battery doesn’t hold a charge anymore. I will also be working on the review for “Shut Up, Dr. Phil” soon too. First ChiCon then a lack of power! I will catch up though. I decided to write my review of “Slash Fiction” before “Shut Up, Dr. Phil” because, quite frankly, I LOVED “Slash Fiction”! My “Shut Up, Dr. Phil” review will also include some of my set watching, as I saw scenes film while I was in Vancouver. But moving along…Slash Fiction is definitely one of my favorite episodes in a long time. Leviathan!Sam and Leviathan!Dean were great, there were some great Sam and Dean moments, and we got a new ‘ship– Jody and Bobby! But I’m getting ahead of myself… “Slash Ficti More After The Cut...

Ramblings On…going to Chicago: ChiCon 2011 (mildly spoilery)

2011 | 2011, Conventions, Creation Entertainment, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Ramblings On, Richard Speight Jr., Season 7, Spoilers, Supernatural

I made the decision to go to Chicago after all right before Vancouver, but since I had to spend so much getting to and being in Vancouver, I wanted to go to Chicago as cheaply as possible…I went Silver to Vancouver, but Chicago I went General Admission. I also took the train to Chicago instead of going by plane. I’m sure since my coach train tickets came to just under $160.00 round trip, it was a cheaper way to go by train than by plane, but I admit I didn’t even look at the rates to O’Hare from Bradley. I wanted a different style of travel first off—I have never taken a trip by train like this! Twenty hours traveling by the Great Lakes! Also, I had quite a bit of apprehension about going on another plane ride…I was so nervous going to and from Vancouver! As far as train travel goes, the seats are bigger than on the plane. You can also move around on a train. And actually have to if you want to eat dinner or get snacks or coffee. The only real issue besides the she More After The Cut...

Ramblings On…Episode 7×04: Defending Your Life (Spoilers)

2011 | Alona Tal, Jensen Ackles, Ramblings On, Season 7, Spoilers, Supernatural

After what seemed like a crazy long time, we got an episode that centered on Dean! I can call this a “monster of the week” episode—or maybe more accurately a “god of the week” episode, but it really wasn’t a “stand alone” episode…due to the nature of it bringing up a lot of back story as far as what Dean feels guilty about… Written by Adam Glass and directed by Robert Singer, “Defending Your Life” is the first “leviathan free” episode of the seventh season. Additionally, Sam’s issues are only touched on briefly, and literally, when Sam hears the voice Sam and touches the palm of his hand where Dean had to sew him up. We start off with someone running from a car, which catches up with him and runs him over IN HIS APARTMENT. Sam and Dean go in to investigate what seems to be a nice run of the mill black and white case only to find out that things just aren’t ever going to be that easy for them…It seems like vengeful spirits are taking out people who More After The Cut...

Ramblings On…Episode 7×03: The Girl Next Door (Spoilers)

2011 | 2011, Editorial, Jensen Ackles, Ramblings On, Season 7, Spoilers, Supernatural

Ah, wasn’t I just saying something about wanting to see a “Monster of the Week” episode? I think this qualifies! Sure the Leviathan came up, and we know they are doing their thing in the background, but Sam’s freak out take off had nothing to do with Leviathans or Purgatory or Cas…it had to do with a girl he knew way back when he was a teenager in 1998. The script was written by Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loftlin, who wrote a few episodes last year…including the episode Jensen directed! This one was filmed first this year because Jensen directed this episode, too. Starting almost where we left off, but not quite, Dean is coming to in Monster General where his leg is being reset. He wakes up next with a cast and tries desperately to get out of bed…although technically successful with getting out of the bed, he winds up on a heap on the floor. Bobby comes in dressed up as one of the hospital administrators and tells Dean to get out to the emergency entrance. Bobby gets More After The Cut...

Ramblings On…Episode 7×02 “Hello, Cruel World” (Spoilers)

2011 | 2011, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Ramblings On, Season 7, Spoilers, Supernatural

What has always amazed me about this show is that just when you think things can’t get any more horrific for the Winchesters, just when you think the writers can’t possibly have any new ideas, you get thrown something that lets you know that there is no end to what can be done…and that the writers somehow have the ability to do all of this without jumping the “shark tank”. I know some fans were skeptical about the show after season five. I feel those fans didn’t give season six the fair chance it deserved…but season six is over now, and season seven has come on stronger, bigger and badder than we have seen in a long time! In my own humble opinion, the show “feels” more like the first three seasons…the show I originally fell in love with. I’ve been realizing this over these last two episodes, but it really hit me when I was talking with a friend about Dean this season. He seems more like the old Dean from the first three seasons, but more mature, more seaso More After The Cut...

Ramblings On…Episode 7×01: Meet The New Boss (Spoilers)

2011 | 2011, Editorial, Ramblings On, Season 7, Spoilers, Supernatural

It is hard to believe that this will be the third season, and the second full season that I will be writing reviews for this show! Truthfully I did not get onboard the Winchester train at the pilot episode! I have seen every episode, and before I started watching live I caught up on all episodes up to that time…The summer before season four, I watched seasons one through three, and began watching live that fall…So my first live show was with Castiel’s entrance. I have read some other reviews for that episode particular episode, “Lazarus Rising”. I know that so many people were so impressed by Castiel’s entrance. I thought it was cool, but I know at that time I feared for the storyline. I so loved the monster of the week theme with evil yellow eyed demons thrown in…but to bring angels into the mix? My reaction was very similar to Dean’s in “Houses of the Holy”…I also feared that such a Christian mythology would limit them creatively… Maybe those are the More After The Cut...

Ramblings On…One Year Gone by Rebecca Dessertine (book spoilers)

2011 | Ramblings On, Spoilers, Supernatural

oneyeargone

While we are in hiatus, why not catch a Supernatural tie-in book or three! Two are due out later this summer, but the first, One Year Gone, by Rebecca Dessertine came out on Tuesday of last week. I just finished reading it, and thought I would give a quick synopsis and a bit of a review on it. As you may, or may not, know Rebecca Dessertine is Eric Kripke’s personal assistant. She knows the ins and outs of his mind, and actually helped with the storyline on Season Five’s “Swap Meat”. She also co-wrote another Supernatural tie-in book, “War Of The Sons”, with David Reed. The forward, introducing the book and Rebecca, is written by none other than Eric Kripke himself. So what do you say about show creator approval cred! The events in the book take place very soon after Dean shows up at Lisa’s house in Cicero, Indiana. Dean is a mess. He is drinking all the time to stop himself from thinking about Sam. When he does sleep he is plagued with nightmares. He isn’t More After The Cut...

Ramblings On…Episode 6×22: The Man Who Knew Too Much (Spoilers)

2011 | Editorial, Ramblings On, Season 6, Spoilers, Supernatural

“Oh a storm is threat’ning/My very life today/If I don’t get some shelter/ Oh yeah, I’m gonna fade away.” The Rolling Stones “Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18 (KJB) And that’s a wrap on the Season Six of Supernatural! I am beyond happy that we have at least one more season of this show coming! But for now, this is the last review for Season Six. I will continue doing retro reviews through hiatus, so let me know which episodes you would like me to review. I started reviewing about the time of “Dark Side Of The Moon”, so anything before that is fair game. My first retro review of this hiatus will be “Hell House”. Currently I am trying to decide if I will do that review before or after I do my Season Six rankings. I ranked the first half of the season, and now I will do one that encompasses all 22 episodes. It might take me a little while… Also over this summer, I will watch and review “Butch Cassidy More After The Cut...
